Bernhard Gold

Bernhard joined the team in 2016 and is responsible for international investment activities outside of Europe. Based in San Francisco, Managing Director of Iris Capital North America, Bernhard’s main focus areas are later stage investments in the Silicon Valley with focus on the media, entertainment, communications and the IT sector. Bernhard has spent his whole career in the digital world, first as an entrepreneur, later as part of a large corporation like Deutsche Telekom and recently as a tech investor in Germany and the US.
Before joining Iris Capital, Bernhard served as Managing Director at T-Venture of America, the corporate venture capital arm of Deutsche Telekom (T-Mobile). In that function, Bernhard handled the investment activities in North America with investments in companies such as Boxfish, Cooliris (sold to Yahoo! ), CipherCloud, Delivery Agent, Kwarter, Mojio, NewAer, Nexmo (sold to Vonage), Pinger, Ruckus Wireless (IPO) and ShareThis. In that role, he served on the Supervisory Board of numerous tech companies.
Prior to moving to San Francisco in 2010, Bernhard worked for T-Venture in Bonn (Germany) as an Investment Director and led investments into startup companies like mediapeers (sold to Deluxe), Moviepilot Germany (sold to Webedia), and Sevenload (sold to Burda). Before that, Bernhard was as Senior Marketing Manager responsible for the marketing, product PR and sales of the Internet Services at T-Online International AG in Darmstadt (Germany), the Internet Service Provider of Deutsche Telekom. Bernhard is a tech entrepreneur at heart. Between 1999 and 2001 he was co-founder and CEO of the Munich-based start-up company CyberProfit, that developed a software solution for real-time tracking of surfing behavior of users on the internet, and used the collected data for intelligent ad targeting.
Bernhard holds a Diploma in Business Administration and a Master in Business Research (MBR), both of the Munich School of Management at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU). He is currently working on his Ph.D. thesis on Innovation Management and Venture Capital.
