Iris Capital expands the team in Berlin: Thorben Rothe joins as Principal

Iris Capital, one of the leading European venture capital companies, announces the arrival of Thorben Rothe who joins the team as Principal, based in Berlin.  Starting this week, the 34-year-old will be responsible for Iris Capital’s early-stage investments in Germany and will strengthen the investment team in Berlin.

Thorben Rothe has more than seven years of experience in venture capital. Most recently, he has been Principal at Capnamic Ventures, one of the leading German early-stage venture capital companies with whom Iris Capital did a number of early-stage co-investments over the last 5 years. There he was responsible for the management of a dozen portfolio companies and opened the office of Capnamic Ventures in Berlin. Prior to that, he worked for DuMont Venture, a Corporate VC specialized in digital media and IT and gained operational experience by working in startups.

Hiring Thorben Rothe is a key step in Iris Capital’s continued strategic expansion in Germany, and especially in Berlin where the start-ups ecosystem is very active. Iris Capital’s portfolio already includes well-known Berlin-based companies such as the re-commerce leader reBuy, the leading app analytics and attribution company Adjust or the search and content analytics software specialist Searchmetrics. The Berlin office, led by Erkan Kilicaslan, Managing Partner, is planned to continue its expansion with further hirings.

"We have been active in Germany since 1993 when we first funded E-Plus. Ever since, we’ve had a successful track record fueling great entrepreneurs in Germany and beyond," says Erkan Kilicaslan, Managing Partner at Iris Capital. "Thorben Rothe will help us further develop our Berlin base and expand our already established network."
